Kavell Conner Scouting Report
|Height & Weight:||6'1 - 235 lbs.|
2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Kavell Conner, OLB, Clemson
Kavell Conner has slowly built his way up. He redshirted during the 2005 campaign, played sparingly as a freshman in 2006 and then started to really show his stuff. Even though he was not a starter, the 6-1 outside linebacker tallied 46 tackles as a sophomore. It was in 2008 when Conner had his coming out party. Conner led the team with 125 tackles. His production in 2009 has been a little disappointing. Conner was expected to emerge as a leader during his senior campaign, but through five games he is tied for third on the team with 35 tackles. It is not that Conner is not having a good senior season, but scouts wanted to know that the Richmond, Virginia product was more than a one year wonder and so far the results are mixed. Where there are few questions about Conner is in his strength and health. Conner is extremely strong for a 6-1, 235 pound linebacker and that will fit in very well with some NFL teams. He has also never missed a game during his three and a half seasons with Clemson. That health and strength will get him drafted somewhere, but he needs to start turning into a leader on a struggling team that needs a leader. He also needs to prove that he can string together a couple of great seasons if he wants to be drafted in the first few rounds. 1/17 Update: Conner really stepped up his game late in the season. During the last four games, he totaled 40 tackles, 4.0 tackles-for-loss and 1.0 sack. Up to that point his numbers were rather pedestrian, but Conner eventually did become the leader of the linebackers. His performance in the Music City Bowl victory over Kentucky has boosted his draft stock dramatically and he could end up in the third round if he can build off that success heading into the draft.
