2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

Darrell Robertson, DE, Georgia Tech

Darrell Robertson is the picture perfect definition of a true pass rusher. The 6-5 Georgia Tech product tallied 6.5 sacks and 16.0 tackles for loss as a senior. A year earlier, he racked up three sacks and seven tackles for loss. During his sophomore season, he was the main backup at defensive end and often came in on obvious passing situations. Even when Robertson was just a sophomore, if the Yellow Jackets wanted somebody to get to the quarterback, he was their man. Robertson used his speed to beat the opposing linemen off the line. He has a nice first step, but he will need more than that to be an effective player in the NFL. On Sundays he will simply get pushed off the line of scrimmage unless he can add more strength. Robertson is projected as a third round pick at the moment. If he can prove to NFL teams that he can gain strength without losing any speed, his stock will go up considerably. However, that is not an easy thing to prove and it would be a big risk for a team to select Robertson before the middle of the third round. Yet, that risk could pay off big time in a year or two. 2/28 Update: Darrell Robertson looks the part of a dominating pass rusher. He has decent quickness and a knack for getting into the backfield. He still needs to add more strength and any team that takes a chance on him in the second or third round will certainly address that issue quickly. 3/21 Update: Darrell Robertson's torn pectoral muscle before the combine is not expected to hurt his stock too much. He went out on a high note at the Senior Bowl and, of course, having a solid season for the Yellow Jackets certainly had him on the rise anyway. As other defensive ends struggle to put up great numbers at their Pro Days, Robertson keeps looking better and better by sitting on the sidelines and referring to his Georgia Tech game tape.
