Comments: NASCAR Picks for Charlotte

The Cup Series heads back to Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend for Saturday night's Bank of America 500. The race will mark the second consecutive trip to a 1.5-mile track, and it is also part of a closing stretch where four of the final seven races will be held at 1.5-mile tracks. Needless to say, the drivers that are dialed in at the intermediate ovals are going to have a leg up in the title fight, and the same can be said for the fantasy owners that drivers to take advantage of in the final weeks of the season.

Keep in mind that, three drivers have combined to win all seven races at 1.5-mile tracks so far in 2013. Matt Kenseth has a series-leading three victories at 1.5-mile ovals, and Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick are tied at two each. Meanwhile, Kenseth and Harvick rank first and second in points scored at 1.5-mile tracks this season. Not surprisingly, Jimmie Johnson also ranks in the top five in points scored, but the same probably can't be said about Martin Truex Jr. and Kurt Busch. Truex and Kurt actually rank ahead of Johnson in points scored at 1.5-mile tracks this season, so it just goes to show that fantasy owners can put together a strong lineup without relying solely on the big names.
