Golf Rankings for Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

1. Charl Schwartzel [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #19

Last week in the HP Byron Nelson Championship, Schwartzel matched a season-high third-place finish. He’ll be playing Colonial for the first time, but was also a newcomer to the Byron Nelson. Schwartzel hasn’t missed a cut in seven stroke play events on Tour this season and is facing a pretty limited field.

2. Zach Johnson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #69

Johnson has captured the title at Colonial two of the last three years and has finished inside the top 10 in four straight appearances. ZJ has now made five consecutive cuts and is coming off his best performance of the season, a T19 in THE PLAYERS Championship. Johnson wasn’t playing his best golf coming into Colonial in years past, so his vanilla 2013 campaign isn’t that big of a concern.

3. Kevin Streelman [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #139

Streelman finished with a career-best T10 at Colonial in 2011, but would miss the cut a year ago. However, he’s been on quite a roll over his last three starts: T3 at Harbour Town, T6 at Quail Hollow and T2 in THE PLAYERS. Streelman recorded his first Tour victory at Copperhead back in March.

4. Matt Kuchar [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #15

Kuchar figures to be an overvalued player this week. He’s made all 11 of his cuts this season, but has finished outside of the top 30 in three straight. Kuchar has played Colonial six straight years and hasn’t missed a cut during that time, but has just a single top 15 to show for it.

5. Jim Furyk [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #79

In his most recent outing, Furyk missed the cut in THE PLAYERS. He’s played Colonial 17 times since 1995 with a variety of results. Last year, Furyk finished solo fourth to mark his best performance on the track since it was expanded to 7,204 yards for the 2009 tournament.

6. Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #34

During last year’s hot streak, Dufner won the Byron Nelson and finished as the runner-up the following week at Colonial. Last week’s title defense resulted in a T33 to give him four straight finishes outside of the top 30. Dufner has yet to rekindle last year’s fire, but is still one of the bigger names in his field.

7. Rickie Fowler [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #9

Fowler has seen his finish improve each of the last three years at Colonial. He placed T38 in his 2010 debut, T16 the following year and climbed to a T5 last year. Fowler has struggled in his last two starts, but looks like a sound bet to rebound this week.

8. Charley Hoffman [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #49

After taking a few years off, Hoffman returned to Colonial for the first time since 2009 to finish a career-best T13. In five starts since April, Hoffman has scored three finishes inside the top 10. Hoffman’s run has elevated him to sixth in All-Around Ranking and 17th in birdie average.

9. Henrik Stenson [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #7

Stenson has yet to record a top-25 finish in his three appearances at Colonial but is playing well enough right now to trust. Over his last five starts, Stenson has put together a pair of top-fives and four finishes inside the top 20.

10. Marc Leishman [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #37

Leishman has finished T44 and T57 in his two Colonial appearances, but is another player to consider this week based on his momentum. Sparked by a T4 in the Masters, Leishman has placed T9 at Harbour Town, T8 in THE PLAYERS and T12 in last week’s Byron Nelson.

11. Chris Kirk [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #111

Over the last two seasons, Kirk has finished T16 and a career-best T5 last year at Colonial. He’s also riding a streak of 10 consecutive cuts made that includes six top-30s. Kirk currently sits third in eagles (holes per), seventh in strokes gained – putting, 13th in scoring average and 14th in All-Around Ranking.

12. Martin Laird [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #104

Laird did not play Colonial last year, but placed T10 in both the 2010 and 2011 events. He’s been very erratic throughout 2013 with a victory at TPC San Antonio back in April and a T5 in THE PLAYERS, his most recent outing. However, Laird has also missed the cut in half of the 12 events in which he’s suited up for.
