Golf Rankings for HP Byron Nelson Championship

1. Jason Day [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #4

Day has been sharp throughout his three starts in the Byron Nelson. The run was started by a victory in 2010, followed by a solo fifth in 2011 and a T9 last year. Day’s highlight of the season was a solo third in the Masters and he’s coming off a solid T19 last week in THE PLAYERS.

2. Matt Kuchar [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #15

Last week’s T48 in THE PLAYERS marks the worst finish of the season for Kuchar. After a strong second round, Kuchar fell apart over the weekend. He’s been very sound in the Byron Nelson the last two years, finishing T15 and T6.

3. Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #34

The Duff Man is the defending Byron Nelson champ and also owns a T8 from 2011. Unfortunately, Dufner is still seeking his first top-10 of the season. Last week in THE PLAYERS, he began the final round T13, but plummeted outside of the top 60 with an ugly final round of 80.

4. Marc Leishman [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #37

Leishman has finished 12th or better in three of his four career starts in the Byron Nelson and added a career-best T3 last year. Following his surprising T4 in the Masters, his run has been extended by a T9 at Harbour Town and last week’s T8 in THE PLAYERS.

5. Ryan Palmer [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #103

Following six missed cuts at Byron Nelson over seven years, Palmer has finished solo second and T9 the last two. He’s made four straight cuts this season, matching a season-high T5 last week in THE PLAYERS.

6. Charl Schwartzel [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #19

Schwartzel had finished 25th or better in five straight stroke play events prior to last week’s T55. This season, Schwartzel ranks sixth in scoring average and 11th in birdie average. He’s playing the Byron Nelson for the first time.

7. Keegan Bradley [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #120

After four straight top-10 finishes, Bradley has gone cold missing his last two cuts. He won the Byron Nelson in 2011 and placed T24 a year ago. Despite the slide, Bradley is still fifth in total driving and 17th in All-Around Ranking.

8. Louis Oosthuizen [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #23

Oosthuizen missed the cut last year in the Byron Nelson, his only career start at the event. When he hasn't been missing cuts this season (something he's done three times in six starts), Oosthuizen has been otherwise alright with two top-20s in his last three starts.

9. D.A. Points [Yahoo Class C]

Over the last four years, Points has recorded three finishes inside the top 20 at the Byron Nelson. After a rocky start to the season, he's made six straight cuts highlighted by two trips to the podium. Given the solid course history and sudden consistency, the typically risky Points looks like a safe option to roll with, at least for this week.

10. Jimmy Walker [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #36

Last week’s T15 in THE PLAYERS gives Walker 11 finishes of 31st or better and extends his Tour-best streak of consecutive cuts made to 22, dating back to last year. Walker has been a vanilla option in the Byron Nelson with three top-35s since 2008.

11. Fredrik Jacobson [Yahoo Class C]

A T48 in last week’s PLAYERS Championship put a halt to six straight top-25s in stroke play events for Jacobson. He’ll look to get back on track in the Byron Nelson, an event he skipped last year. Jacobson does own a respectable T27 from the 2011 edition.

12. Jeff Overton [Yahoo Class C]

Following a T2 in 2010 and another top-10 the following year, Overton missed the cut in the Byron Nelson last year. He’s made four straight cuts this season with three finishes inside the top 30.
