Golf Rankings for The Barclays

13. Webb Simpson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #62

Simpson got off to a strong start last week at Sedgefield, but faded during the weekend. Since winning the U.S. Open, Simpson has experienced similar issues during the final round in three of his last four starts. He doesn’t have a track record at Bethpage, but ranks first on Tour in birdie average this season.

14. Phil Mickelson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #24

If he wasn’t struggling right now, Mickelson would be a fantastic start this week. Lefty finished as the runner-up in both Bethpage events staged in the U.S. Open. Mickelson ranks just 35th in scoring average and isn't worth starting among the elite players in his company.

15. Ian Poulter [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #84

Poulter has made each cut on Tour this season and has two top-10s in his last three starts, both coming at majors. He finished T18 at Bethpage in 2009.

16. Matt Kuchar [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #15

Prior to missing the cut in the PGA Championship, Kuchar had recorded three top-10s in four starts. He ranks third in scoring average and ninth in All-Around Ranking. Kuchar is a step or two behind where he was a year or two ago, but still among the more consistent players around.

17. Bo Van Pelt [Yahoo Class C]

With three top-10s and four top-20s in his last five starts, Van Pelt is back to his consistent ways. BVP ranks fifth in total driving, ninth in stroke gained – putting, 12th in birdie average, 13th in scoring average and second in All-Around Ranking.

18. Padraig Harrington [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #163

Harrington has been very solid of late with half a dozen top-20s in his last seven starts. Back in 2002, he finished T8 at Bethpage in the U.S. Open. On Tour Harrington ranks eighth in scoring average.

19. Louis Oosthuizen [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #23

After missing four cuts in a span of five starts earlier in the season, Oosthuizen has finished 21st or better in his last three with a solo fourth at Firestone. He’s among the first timers at Bethpage.

20. Robert Garrigus [Yahoo Class B]

In addition to four straight top-25s, Garrigus owns a pair of top-fives heading to Bethpage for the first time. Garrigus ranks fourth in driving distance, ninth in greens in regulation percentage, 11th in birdie average and 23rd in All-Around Ranking. His performance may take a dip against so many of the top players, but Garrigus seems very close to breaking through.

21. Lee Westwood [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #57

In his last four worldwide starts Westwood has yet to finish better than 40th and is coming off a missed cut in the PGA Championship. In the 2009 U.S. Open at Blackpage he finished T23. Westwood appears to be another big name carrying a lot of risk this week.

22. Hunter Mahan [Yahoo Class C]

Mahan is a player that would rank much higher if he wasn’t mired in a slump. In 2009 he finished T6 at Bethpage in the U.S. Open. This season, however, he’s finished outside of the top 45 in three straight starts.

23. Dustin Johnson [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #1

Since winning the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Johnson has only added one top-30 finish in his last half dozen starts. When he's playing at his best, Johnson is on the short list of contenders. Right now, however, it's hard to look past the recent struggles.

24. Geoff Ogilvy [Yahoo Class C]

Ogilvy has finished inside the top 25 in each of his last three starts. He now owns six such results over his last eight events. He finished T47 at Bethpage in 2009.
