Golf Rankings for The Open Championship

13. Charl Schwartzel [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #19

Prior to a T38 finish at the U.S. Open, Schwartzel recorded four finishes inside the top 20 in four worldwide events. Schwartzel finished T16 in last year’s British Open after a T14 in 2010.

14. Martin Kaymer [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #56

Even though Kaymer has been mediocre in his last three European Tour events, he finished T15 in his last two Tour events -- THE PLAYERS and the U.S. Open. Kaymer has also been solid in the last two British Opens, finishing T12 last year and T7 in 2010.

15. Ernie Els [Yahoo Class C]

Els is worth starting based on his excellent history at Royal Lytham & St Annes. Els finished T2 in the 1996 British Open and T3 when the event returned in 2001. He recently finished solo ninth at the U.S. Open.

16. Steve Stricker [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #78

In five starts since 2007 Stricker has finished 12th or better in three British Open events and did not miss a cut. He’s also coming off a T5 at the John Deere Classic, his best finish since winning the season opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Stricker ranks 13th in birdie average, 22nd in scoring average and 15th in All-Around Ranking.

17. Adam Scott [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #14

Scott has only started eight Tour stroke play events this season, but has found success playing this reduced schedule with six finishes of 17th or better. He’s coming off a season-high solo third at the AT&T National. Scott returns to action at the British Open where he owns five finishes inside the top 30 over the last six years.

18. Louis Oosthuizen [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #23

Oosthuizen has been all over the map this season. After finishing third, second and first in consecutive events he’s missed four cuts in six starts with only one top-20. Oosthuizen won the 2010 British Open, but finished T54 last year.

19. Jason Dufner [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #34

Dufner has missed the cut in his only two career starts in the British Open, but is playing on a whole new level this season. He’s taken a month off since a T4 at the U.S. Open, Dufner’s fourth top-five in his last five starts, highlighted by a pair of wins.

20. Jim Furyk [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #79

Prior to missing the cut at The Greenbrier Classic, Furyk made nine straight cuts with three top-fives and seven finishes of 13th or better. Furyk finished outside of the top 30 the last three years in the British Open, but had two top-fives from 2006-08 after missing five straight cuts in the event.

21. Bubba Watson [Yahoo Class B] - World Ranking: #40

It’s been nearly a month since Watson took time off since a T2 at the Travelers Championship. He ranks first on Tour in both driving distance and greens in regulation percentage. Watson is also third in birdie average, ninth in scoring average and seventh in All-Around Ranking. After missing two cuts in the British Open, Watson finished T30 a year ago.

22. Graeme McDowell [Yahoo Class A] - World Ranking: #92

Following a share of second in the U.S. Open, McDowell returned to the European Tour with a T16 at the Irish Open and a T17 at the Open de France. However, McDowell’s resume in the British Open is weak with only top-15 finish and three missed cuts in eight starts.

23. Ian Poulter [Yahoo Class C] - World Ranking: #84

Over his last 10 worldwide starts, Poulter owns six top-15s and is coming off a T4 at the Open de France. Poulter finished solo second in the 2008 British Open, but has missed two of the last three cuts.

24. Hunter Mahan [Yahoo Class C]

Over his last two starts, Mahan finished T11 at the Travelers Championship and T8 in the AT&T National. He ranks third in greens in regulation percentage, 15th in scoring average and sixth in total driving. Mahan will need all that momentum as he’s missed three of the last four cuts at the British Open.
