1. Rory McIlroy - World Ranking: #3

McIlroy won at Quail Hollow in his 2010 debut, missed the cut the following year and lost in a playoff in 2012. McIlroy was among the leaders after last year's first round and placed T10. He's coming off a T8 at the Masters; McIlroy's second consecutive top-10 and fifth in six stroke play events this season.

2. Lee Westwood - World Ranking: #57

After a solo seventh at Augusta, Westwood won the Malaysian Open on the European Tour. Over the last two years, Westwood has finished T4 and T5 at Quail Hollow. Westwood, a top-15 player for much of 2013, is quickly regaining his form after becoming an afterthought early in the season.

3. Phil Mickelson - World Ranking: #24

Mickelson has played Quail Hollow each of the last 10 years and owns an average finish of 10.7 with five top-fives. Lefty has been dealing with a recent back injury and is coming off his first missed cut at Augusta since 1997. Mickelson has taken three weeks off and now hopefully healthy heading into one of his better tracks.

4. Justin Rose - World Ranking: #13

Rose appears to be over his shoulder issue after scoring a T14 at Augusta and a T8 last week at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Rose hasn’t played Quail Hollow since 2011 and didn’t land a top-25 at the site in the five starts he made from 2005-11.

5. Rickie Fowler - World Ranking: #9

Fowler won this event in 2012 but only managed a T73 last year. He scored a solo sixth in his 2010 debut and T16 the following year. Fowler is coming off a disappointing missed cut last week at TPC Louisiana after he placed sixth at the Shell Houston Open and a T5 at Augusta.

6. Jimmy Walker - World Ranking: #36

Walker struggled at Quail Hollow in most of his previous six starts until putting together a T22 last year. Since winning at Pebble Beach, Walker rattled off four consecutive top-25s in stroke play events until scoring a T8 in the Masters.

7. Jim Furyk - World Ranking: #79

Furyk has scored four consecutive top-20s this season, including a pair of top-10s. Furyk won at Quail Hollow back in 2006 and finished 26th or better from 2009-12, including three of 11th or better. He didn’t play this event last year but is playing well enough right now to consider starting anyway.

8. Ryan Moore - World Ranking: #45

Moore has finished T6 and T5 at Quail Hollow the last two years, but was tied for the lead to begin each of those tournaments. Moore is coming off a missed cut at Augusta, his second MC in his last four stroke play events. The track history is awful tempting, though.

9. J.B. Holmes - World Ranking: #50

Holmes has quietly finished inside the top 20 in four of his last five and 12th or better in three of them. He placed a career-best T9 at Quail Hollow in 2011 and blew a top-30 in 2012 with a poor final round.

10. Jonas Blixt

Blixt is playing for the first time since his impressive T2 at Augusta. Blixt had missed the cut in two previous starts this season and also didn’t see the weekend at Quail Hollow last year. The Swede owns a T9 from 2012 and could be a contender once again this week.

11. Hunter Mahan

Mahan was a solid player at Quail Hollow from 2008-11; all top-25s, but has finished T73 and T53 the last two years. He’s not exactly on top of his game right now, either. Mahan recently missed the cut at Harbour Town after a T31 at the Shell Houston Open and a T26 at the Masters.

12. Zach Johnson - World Ranking: #69

Johnson has been a mixed bag at Quail Hollow over the years. Last season, he was tied for 13th after two rounds but dropped to T65 after a rough weekend. Over the last five years, ZJ owns three results outside of the top 50 but also a T6 from 2011 and a T11 from 2009.
