Week 8: RB Roundup
Arian Foster; Ben Tate;Greg Jones
Current scenario: To say the Texans have been struggling would be an understatement. Houston has not won a game since week two and in the process starting quarterback Matt Schaub and running backs Arian Foster and Ben Tate are injured. Foster carried the ball just four times against the Chiefs before leaving the game due to a hamstring injury. Tate got the lion's share of the carries in Kansas City, but managed just 50 yards as he struggled to play with four broken ribs. The Texans' bye this week couldn't have come at a better time. They need to rest and return some of these starters as they prepare to make the second half push for a playoff birth.
Future scenario: If Foster and Tate can get healthy they could do some damage. The Texans have four games against the Colts and Jaguars in their next seven games. Both Foster and Tate should post big numbers against the 27th ranked Colts and 32nd ranked Jags run defenses.
Trent Richardson; Donald Brown
Current scenario: We hope you can say timeshare because that is exactly what we've seen in Indianapolis the past few weeks. This in part has been due to Trent Richardson's inability to get anything going in the run game. Richardson went on to further damage himself when he fumbled late in the game against Denver. With the loss of Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis' run game will need to step it up. Receivers Ty Hilton and Darrius Heyward-Bey could use some help in the ground game to make their lives easier.
Future scenario: The Colts have a bye in week 8, so look for them to put together a game plan for what to do without Wayne on the field. A big piece of this plan should involve running the ball more effectively. After the break, Indianapolis will face just two run defenses - Cincinnati and Arizona - ranked in the top 20. If the Colts run game is going to succeed, now is the time to make it happen.
Maurice Jones-Drew; Justin Forsett; Jordan Todman
Current scenario: The only plus to owning Maurice Jones-Drew is that he is the only back getting the ball on this team. Unlike the Colts who use two backs, Jacksonville has Jones-Drew and that's all. Aside from this, there is little positive to say about Jacksonville's run game this season. The 28 year old Jones-Drew has rushed for more than 50 yards in just two games this season and has found the end zone just twice. With the offensive line and quarterback problems Jacksonville has, it would surprise us to see Jones-Drew's fantasy value rise beyond where it's at today.
Future scenario: Jacksonville has struggled to pass, run and play defense this year. In short, the team has too many holes to fill and not enough talent to get the job done. Jones-Drew is still a quality back, but he's in a horrible offense. Don't expect great numbers from him at all this season.
Chris Johnson; Shonn Greene; Jackie Battle
Current scenario: Everyone knew the last four games would be tough for Johnson to move the ball on the ground. Instead, Johnson made up for a lack of production on the ground with a couple of solid receiving games, even scoring a couple of touchdowns along the way. With quarterback Jake Locker back, the passing game should improve which should help Johnson on the ground.
Future scenario: After the Titans' week eight bye, they will face four run defenses ranked 27th or lower in their next five games. This should mean good numbers for Tennessee's run game. The drawback here is weeks 14 and 15 the Titans play Denver and Arizona, two run defenses ranked in the top 7 right at the start of fantasy playoff season. If you can get by these games, things look really good as the Titans face the 32nd and 26th ranked run defenses the final two weeks.
