Week 17: Pickups of the Week

These players are worth considering adding to your roster if they're available. This week's picks include Matt Flynn, Joe Webb, Kahlil Bell, Ronnie Brown, and Toby Gerhart.

The Saints are likely to rest their starters (as mentioned above in my annual anti-Week 17 tirade), which makes this an ideal chance to take a closer look at the talented (but underused) Chris Ivory. It is hard to guess what his opponents -- the Carolina Panthers -- will bring to the table this week, but they were a middling rush defense through most of the season and he could find some openings against them.

Why not, huh? Green Bay's starters won't be making more than a guest appearance while Cobb should handle the yeoman's share of the receiving work (although he likely won't have the benefit of catching passes from Aaron Rodgers). Cobb is a 2011 second-round pick and will be looking to showcase his skills in hopes of competing for a starting job next season; he already seems to have passed Donald Driver.

Picking Saints receivers at this point involves some heavy guess work, but with Lance Moore and Marques Colston expected to rest up for the playoffs, Meachem appears ready to lead the reserves into action against the Panthers in Week 17. Meachem already flashes big time ability as a number three; he would certainly be a game-breaker as a number one, if only Drew Brees were throwing him passes. Instead, we'll likely see a lot of Chase Daniel behind center.

Roberts has as many catches in the last four weeks as all-world teammate Larry Fitzgerald -- and just as many touchdowns (two). He could be a sneaky fill-in during the penultimate week of (some) imaginary football seasons.

Jared Cook has been an unstoppable force for the Titans down the stretch. After being woefully excluded from play in Weeks 13 and 14, he exploded for 17 catches, 272 yards and a TD over his last two games. He found the end zone against Houston back in Week 7 when he was still an afterthought in Mike Munchak's offense. Now that he appears to be the focal point, he could be in line for a few more visits to pay dirt.
