Week 15: Sit 'Em

These usually solid players are not worth starting this week due to match-up, injury, or other circumstances This week's picks include Tyler Palko, Frank Gore, Ryan Mathews, Rashard Mendenhall, and C.J. Spiller.

Thomas caught 6 passes last week. OK, but where has he been in the running game. Yes, Thomas has had a few solid outings as a rusher this season, but he is not a viable option at running back unless in a PPR format on a good day. Sproles and Ivory are competing with Thomas for carries and his 7 carries or so per game are not cutting it. The 30-60 yards that Thomas gains per week is not anything special. This week Thomas faces Minnesota. The Minnesota defense has not been the best this season and Drew Brees and his receivers will likely shred their opposition. This means less attention on the running game except when setting up passing situations. Thomas should receive 6-8 carries this week and achieve no more than 30 rushing yards. He might grab a few short yardage receptions out of the backfield.

Ward is slowly fading away this season. The other wide outs in Pittsburgh are younger, stronger and can jump higher. Ward is the casualty of age and injury. Ward has not scored since Week 5 when he caught two TD passes. Ward's weekly numbers have basically dwindled throughout the season. His inconsistent play and injuries pose an issue. Ward still has value and in the right match-up he might be worth a look, but this week vs. San Francisco I do not think he is your best option. San Francisco's pass defense is not nearly as stout as their run defense. The pass defense can be beat, but I am thinking Big Ben will find his downfield targets, meaning not likely Ward. Wallace and Brown will be looking for monster games and others will be looking to get into the mix as well. If Ben has lots of options, which he may, Ward might grab a few passes. I think he will pick up 20 yards at best.
